Woman Arraigned in Connection with Non-Fatal Shooting in Billerica

BILLERICA – Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan and Billerica Chief of Police Roy Frost have confirmed that Sarah Wooten, 23 of Billerica, was arraigned today in Lowell District Court on charges of assault and battery with a firearm, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon causing serious bodily injury and discharging a firearm in a dwelling in connection with the non-fatal shooting of a woman who is known to her.

On Saturday May 11, 2024, Billerica Police responded to a Buckingham Drive home for the report that a woman had been shot inside the home. Upon arrival police located the victim, a 24-year-old woman, inside the home suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to her face. The victim was transported to an area hospital where she remains with life-threatening injuries. The preliminary investigation suggests that the two women, who are known to each other, were at the defendant’s home. The defendant was allegedly handling a shotgun, which was legally owned by her boyfriend, when the victim was shot.

At today’s arraignment bail was set at $15,000 and the defendant was ordered not to possess any weapons.  The next date is July 10, 2024, for pretrial hearing.

This is an ongoing investigation being conducted by the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office, Billerica Police and Massachusetts State Police Detectives assigned to the District Attorney’s Office.
