Statement on Fatal Wilmington Crash

WILMINGTON - District Attorney Marian Ryan and Wilmington Police Chief Joe Desmond have confirmed the ongoing investigation into a fatal crash that occurred Wednesday night on Route 62 in Wilmington.

The preliminary investigation suggests that at approximately 9:09 p.m., a Lexus RX 330 was traveling westbound and a Jeep Grand Cherokee was traveling eastbound when the Lexus crossed over the line into the opposite lane. The Lexus then struck the Jeep at a high rate of speed head-on.

The operator and sole occupant of the Lexus, identified as Erica Mastropietro, 41, was transported to Lahey Hospital in Burlington where she was later pronounced dead. The operator and sole occupant of the Jeep was also transported to Lahey Hospital where she remains hospitalized.

This crash is being investigated by the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office, the Wilmington Police Department and the Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section of the Massachusetts State Police.
