Man Arraigned in Connection with Sexual Assault in Lexington

LEXINGTON – Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan and Lexington Chief of Police Michael McLean have confirmed that James DeVellis, 56 of Wakefield, was arraigned today on charges of rape and indecent assault and battery in connection with an alleged sexual assault of a man who was known to him.

James Devellis was arraigned today in Middlesex Superior Court.  Judge Camille Sarrouf ordered the defendant released on personal recognizance and ordered him to stay away from the victim and the victim’s immediate family as well as the family home and to surrender his passport. The next date in this case is January 10, 2023.

In April of 2020 the defendant allegedly invited the victim, a 21-year-old male who was known to him, to his Lexington home to complete some work that needed to be done.  At some point during the visit the victim lost consciousness and the defendant allegedly sexually assaulted him. 

The prosecutor assigned to this case is Julie Kunkel.  The Victim Witness Advocate is Joseph Bernstein.
