Doctor Indicted on Rape and Sexual Assault Charges of 11 Women Who Were His Patients

FRAMINGHAM - Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan has announced that Derrick Todd, 52 of Wayland, a physician formerly practicing in Framingham, has been indicted by a Middlesex County Grand Jury on three counts of rape and seventeen counts of indecent assault and battery for the alleged sexual assaults of eleven women. The charges stem from allegations that the defendant sexually assaulted eleven adult female patients between 2021 and 2023 while acting as a rheumatologist and primary care physician at Charles River Medical Associates.

“The allegations are that the defendant in this case exploited his patients' vulnerability and abused his position of trust as a medical professional. No person should have to fear for their safety when seeking medical treatment. Under the guise of medical treatment, the defendant allegedly victimized multiple women  while practicing medicine in Framingham,” said District Attorney Ryan.

Between 2021 and 2023, while in practice as a rheumatologist and primary care physician at Charles River Medical Associates in Framingham, MA the defendant raped and indecently assaulted eleven female, adult patients. Those patients ranged in age from 20 years old to 60 years old.

The defendant is accused of conducting unnecessary and excessively prolonged pelvic and breast examinations, performing procedures for which he lacked appropriate training or certification and engaging in conduct that was outside the accepted standards of medical care. In several instances, the alleged assaults occurred under the guise of legitimate medical treatment, including purported pelvic floor therapy, despite the defendant not being qualified to perform such therapy.

The defendant is expected to be arraigned in Middlesex Superior Court on March 25, 2026.

This case was investigated by the Framingham Police Department and the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office. The prosecutors assigned to this case are Maren Schrader, Caroline Evans, Anna Tallion, Danica Apothekar and Tim Ferriter. The victim witness advocates are Joseph Bernstein, Cheri MacDonald, and Cassie Aviles.

These are allegations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.

In January of 2025 Derick Todd was also charged with two counts of rape alleging the sexual assault of two additional women who were his patients at the time of the assaults. These assaults are alleged to have occurred in December of 2022 and in June of 2023, during medical examinations. The next date in that case is March 25, 2026, in Middlesex Superior Court.
