Man Charged in Connection with Fatal Pedestrian Crash in Woburn

WOBURN – Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan and Woburn Chief of Police Robert Rufo have confirmed that Elmer Coreas, 57 of Woburn has been charged with leaving the scene of personal injury and death in connection with fatally striking John McGuinness, 70 of Woburn last night on Montvale Avenue in Woburn.

The preliminary investigation suggests that at approximately 7:30 p.m. Woburn police responded to the area of Montvale Avenue and Everett Street for a hit and run crash involving a pedestrian. Mr. McGuiness was located on scene and transported to Lahey Clinic where he later died from his injuries.

Woburn Police were able to identify fluids from the suspect motor vehicle which they were able to follow back to an apartment building on Montvale Avenue where they located a maroon Honda Pilot with heavy front end damage. Police subsequently located the owner of the vehicle,  who allegedly was operating it at the time of the crash.

This is an open and ongoing investigation being conducted by the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office, Woburn Police and the Massachusetts State Police Crash Reconstruction Section. Additional charges are possible.

The defendant will be arraigned in Woburn District Court on Monday, February 28, 2022.
