Man Arraigned in Middlesex Superior Court in Connection with September Fatal Shooting in Everett
EVERETT – Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan and Everett Chief of Police Steven Mazzie have announced that Charles Demos, 30 of Rochester, New Hampshire was arraigned today in Middlesex Superior Court on charges of murder and possession of a firearm as an armed career criminal in connection with the fatal shooting of Jarrod Harris, 42 of Everett, that occurred shortly after 1:00 a.m. on September 21, 2019, outside Karma Lounge on Ferry Street in Everett.
Assistant Clerk Magistrate Daniel Flaherty ordered the defendant held without bail and ordered Demos to stay away from and have no contact with witnesses and victims in the case. Demos was arrested on September 22, 2019, as a fugitive from justice and arraigned in Malden District Court on September 25, 2019 on charges of murder and carrying a firearm without a license. He was indicted by a Middlesex Grand Jury on December 20, 2019.
On September 21, 2019, Jarrod Harris was leaving Karma Lounge with a female that is known to him shortly after 1:00 a.m. when a physical altercation occurred involving the couple, Charles Demos and several other individuals. During the altercation, Charles Demos allegedly went to a vehicle that was parked nearby and obtained a firearm. Demos allegedly pursued Harris, firing the gun multiple times and striking Harris twice. Good Samaritans on scene attempted to intervene before the shooting and also to render first aid. The victim was subsequently transported to Massachusetts General Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Demos allegedly fled the scene in a vehicle later identified by police as a Volkswagen Passat registered to an individual in New Hampshire known to Demos. Police subsequently identified Demos as the alleged shooter and obtained a warrant for his arrest. Charles Demos was located the following day at a Seabrook, New Hampshire home and arrested on a fugitive from justice charge by the Massachusetts State Police Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section with the assistance of the United States Marshal’s Service and Seabrook Police. At that time police also arrested the resident of the home, Joshua Demos, 35, on a federal probation violation unrelated to this case.
As part of the ongoing investigation into this incident investigators learned that David Landry, 32, of Everett, and Joshua Demos, 35, were the other individuals allegedly present with Charles Demos during the fatal altercation. Investigators also learned that David Landry allegedly handed the gun from inside the trunk to Charles Demos prior to the shooting.
David Landry was indicted by a Middlesex Grand Jury on December 20, 2019 on the charge of murder in addition to possession of a firearm as an armed career criminal, and assault with a dangerous weapon, he will be arraigned in Middlesex Superior Court on January 24, 2020. He was arraigned in Malden District Court on September 24, 2019 on charges of assault with a dangerous weapon, assault and battery and possession of a firearm without a license, and has been held without bail after he was found dangerous following a 58A hearing on October 1, 2019.
Joshua Demos, who is currently serving a two year Federal prison sentence as a result of a probation surrender hearing following this shooting, was indicted by a Middlesex Grand Jury on December 20, 2019 on the charge of assault and battery in connection with the assault on Jarrod Harris.
These charges are allegations and the defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty. This investigation was conducted by the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office, Massachusetts State Police and Everett Police.
