Fatal Shooting Under Investigation in Lowell

LOWELL – Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan and Lowell Police Superintendent Barry Golner have confirmed an investigation into a fatal shooting that occurred last night in Lowell.

Shortly after 7:00 p.m. last night, Lowell Police responded to Chelmsford Street, at Maitland Avenue for a report of a male party suffering apparent trauma.  Upon arrival police located the victim, later identified as Odogwu Ganobi, 26 of Lowell.  He was transported to Lowell General Hospital  and subsequently to Tufts Medical Center in Boston where he died this morning.  The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner conducted an autopsy and determined that the cause of death was  gunshot wound and the manner of death is homicide.

The Middlesex District Attorney’s Office, Lowell Police  and Massachusetts State Police detectives assigned to the District Attorney’s office are actively investigating at this time.
