BELMONT - District Attorney Marian Ryan is proud to announce that the Belmont Police Department, and civilians, Kenneth Hynes, Fabio Monteiro de Pina and Kaio Gomes, were named the recipients of this year’s 911 First Responders Awards for their courage and collective actions to save the life of a woman in Belmont, facilitate an investigation and cooperate with the apprehension of a suspect. Belmont Police Chief, Richard McLaughlin, Kenneth Hynes and Fabio Monteiro de Pina attended the Office’s annual Award Ceremony on December 11, 2019 to receive the award.

On July 17, 2019, the Belmont Police Department received a 911 call regarding a stabbing in progress on Partridge Lane in Belmont. The civilians immediately offered aid to the victim and provided vital information to the authorities about the incident that ultimately led to the apprehension of the defendant.

“The collective effort of these citizens and the Belmont Police Department exemplifies the extraordinary result of team-work in this case, leading to the capture of the defendant and possibly saving the life of the victim. When citizens partner with law enforcement, we find a positive impact in the safety of our communities, a faster resolution of the cases and justice and security for the victims”, said District Attorney Ryan during the awards.

The First Responder’s Award is presented to one or more first responders or investigators for demonstrating extraordinary courage, bravery and selflessness in a way that reminds us of the first who responded to the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001.
