Statement on Fatal Crash in Tyngsborough 

TYNGSBOROUGH – Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan and Tyngsborough Chief of Police Richard Howe have confirmed an investigation into a fatal crash that occurred today in Tyngsborough.

Today, the Tyngsborough Police Department was contacted by a caller to conduct a well-being check on a resident of Tyngsborough. At approximately 1:08 p.m., officers who were responding to the caller's residence observed a red Toyota Corolla being driven at a high rate of speed. The vehicle matched the description given by the caller. Officers then attempted to stop the car unsuccessfully. The operator of the vehicle allegedly drove off at a high rate of speed, made a right onto Westford Road, crossed the center line and subsequently struck a garbage truck head-on. The operator of the Toyota Corolla was pronounced dead on the scene. The driver of the garbage truck was transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The Tyngsborough Police Department requested resources and assistance from NEMLEC.

This is an open and ongoing investigation being conducted by the Middlesex District Attorney's Office, Massachusetts State Police Detectives assigned to the District Attorney's Office, the Tyngsborough Police Department and the Massachusetts State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section. No charges have been filed and no additional information is being released at this time.
