Denise Jefferson Casper, Chief Legal Counsel

Casper brings extensive experience in the public and private sectors, serving as an associate in the litigation department at Bingham Dana and as trial attorney and Deputy Chief of the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force at the U.S. Attorney’s Office. She is currently an instructor at the Boston University Law School. Casper acts as a top legal advisor, manages the appeals and training divisions, and oversees investigations and prosecutions into areas including organized crime, public corruption, and high-level narcotics, as well as the regional superior court trial teams.

John McEvoy, Chief Trial Counsel

Well-known as a highly-successful and experienced trial lawyer and advisor in the Middlesex DA’s Office, McEvoy has been a critical reason for the establishment of the stellar reputation of the office. During his career, he has investigated, prosecuted, and supervised many of the most serious, high-profile cases in Middlesex County. McEvoy serves as the office’s chief trial advisor, while continuing to lead the investigation and prosecution of homicide, child and elder abuse, and domestic violence matters, as well as the regional superior court trial teams.

Patricia Gould, Director of District Courts, Prosecution and Prevention

Patricia began her work as a prosecutor in the Plymouth DA’s office, went on to serve as Director of the National Traffic Law Center at the American Prosecutors Research Institute, and most recently as director of training for the Massachusetts District Attorneys Association. Gould manages the Middlesex County district courts, prosecution, prevention, and juvenile programs.

Daniel Bennett, Senior Trial Counsel

Bennett continues the tradition of attracting the best trial attorneys to the Middlesex DA’s Office. He has been a prosecutor at Middlesex and in the Suffolk DA’s Gang Unit, and also as a criminal defense counsel at Mahoney, Diamond, Bennett and Harnais. As Senior Trial Counsel, Bennett serves as a top advisor to on trial matters, and is assigned to serious felonies, including gang, homicide, and sexual and physical abuse cases.

Chris Doherty, General Counsel

Doherty has served as a both a prosecutor and supervisor in Middlesex, most recently in the Lowell District Courts. As General Counsel, Doherty prosecutes cases as well as works with the communications and prevention departments in developing policy and overseeing community and legislative initiatives.

Corey Welford, Communications Director

Has extensive communications experience in both the public and private sectors, handling media relations for numerous healthcare and sports clients. He most recently served as Press Secretary for Attorney General Tom Reilly. Welford directs all communications outreach for the office.
