Chelmsford Man Arraigned In Connection With Murder of Estranged Wife
CAMBRIDGE – Middlesex District Attorney Gerry Leone informed the public today that a 36-year-old Chelmsford man has been arraigned in Middlesex Superior Court today in connection with the murder of Christine McGee, his 31-year-old estranged wife.
Jeffrey McGee was arraigned on one count of first degree murder in connection with the stabbing of Christine McGee in his Chelmsford apartment on November 20, 2007. Middlesex Superior Court Judge Geraldine Hines ordered McGee held without bail.
According to authorities, at approximately 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, November 20, Methuen Police and Fire responded to the scene of a car accident on Lowell Street in Methuen. Jeffrey McGee, the defendant, had driven his car at a high rate of speed into oncoming traffic and struck a dump truck. The defendant showed the first responders at the scene several stab wounds to his chest and deep cuts to his left wrist, which he said were self-inflicted with a knife prior to getting in the car.
The defendant’s now four-year-old son was also present in the car’s front passenger seat and was restrained by only a seat belt at the time. Jeffrey McGee was transported to Holy Family Hospital in Methuen and treated for his injuries. His son was transported to Holy Family Hospital and then to Children’s Hospital in Boston where he was treated for his injuries and released.
After trying to locate McGee’s wife, Christine McGee, Methuen Police requested that the Tyngsboro and Chelmsford Police conduct a well-being check for her at her home in Tyngsboro and the defendant’s apartment in Chelmsford. As a result of the well-being check, they found Christine McGee stabbed to death in Jeffrey McGee’s Chelmsford apartment.
Upon further investigation, it was alleged that Jeffrey McGee had fatally stabbed Christine McGee in the early hours of November 20. Christine McGee suffered multiple stab wounds.
McGee was arrested on November 21, 2007 and arraigned November 23 in Holy Family Hospital on first degree murder charges. Lowell District Court Judge Stephen Ostrach ordered McGee held without bail.
McGee was indicted by a Grand Jury on January 3, 2008.
These charges are allegations, and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
The prosecutor assigned to the case is Assistant District Attorney Katharine Folger, chief of the Middlesex District Attorney’s Child Abuse Unit. The victim witness advocate is Kara Grant.
